About

The California Sickle Cell Data Collection (CA SCDC) program is a public health surveillance initiative that brings together expertise in epidemiology, clinical care, data science, and community engagement.

Contributors include public health researchers and analysts from
Tracking California, clinicians, and researchers from sickle cell
treatment centers, advocates from community-based organizations, individuals with lived experience of sickle cell disease, and partners at the California Department of Public Health and the Department of Health Care Services.

Our Multi-Disciplinary Team

CA SCDC engages a variety of stakeholders to identify priorities, ensuring the information we collect and produce is valuable.

We work with a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) of health professionals, healthcare providers, community organizations, and individuals with sickle cell disease to identify ways our data can be used to enhance policies, healthcare approaches, and treatments for individuals with SCD.

A program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Sickle Cell Data Collection (SCDC) Program

The CDC funds states like ours to participate in its SCDC program. Each SCDC state collects and links data from several sources to develop a comprehensive database to better understand the healthcare needs of people living with SCD in their state.

A project of Tracking California

Tracking California is a program of the Public Health Institute, in partnership with the California Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control’s National Environmental Public Health Tracking Program.

Tracking California works to make environmental and health data and information publicly-available, accessible and useful to a variety of stakeholders including communities, governments, academia, and private partners.

Our CA SCDC Team

Our team includes staff that focus on data analysis and compilation, health education and communications, community outreach and engagement, and program administration.
